The Mayor and Council approved a budget amendment on April 20 to increase capital outlay line 510.135 by $160,000 for gym floor repair and bleacher work. Town Administrator Delaine Galloway said the money is a project charge linked to designated funds (described in the meeting as GRAMA/project funds), not a general tax increase.
Council members asked for clarity about scope and schedule. Staff said the work includes flipping the half‑court logo, repainting lines (including youth free‑throw and three‑point markings), and repairing bleachers. The gym will be closed to the public while work proceeds; staff set a closure window from April 20 through May 1 to allow contractors to complete floor resurfacing and painting.
A resident representative asked that the town coordinate with all regular gym users (including the Boys and Girls Club) to ensure the resurfacing meets program needs and to consider reuse options for the replaced bleachers. Council approved the amendment 6‑0.
Staff will schedule work and reach out to user groups to confirm layout and accessibility needs prior to the start of work.
