Slinger board: $16,535 Urban Forestry grant received; winter tree work underway

Parks Supervisor Josh Feller told the Village of Slinger Park, Recreation & Forestry Board on Jan. 5 that the village received an Urban Forestry grant check in December 2025 for $16,535 and that crews have begun removing dead trees.
The grant, Feller said, arrived in December 2025 and was followed by initial removal work last month. "We received the Urban Forestry grant check in December of 2025 in the amount $16,535.00," Feller said. He added that cutting of dead trees started in December and will continue into early January, and that the department will begin its winter pruning program this month.
The funding and the winter maintenance are intended to support tree health and public safety in village parks and along streets. Board members did not vote on any new contracts at the meeting; the report was informational. The board asked for routine updates on forestry operations as staff advance the pruning and removal schedule.
The board will receive further updates in subsequent meetings as the crew progresses through the winter pruning plan.
