Kentwood commission approves road salt purchase and adopts budget and fee updates

At the June 16 meeting the Kentwood City Commission approved several routine but consequential administrative items.
The commission authorized the purchase of 4,550 tons of road salt from Compass Minerals for use in fiscal year 2027, to be charged to the major and local street funds; the motion (moved by Commissioner Arts, supported by Commissioner Coughlin) carried on a voice vote.
Finance staff then presented a resolution to amend the 2025-26 budget to ensure departments are at budgeted amounts and that new accounts have budgets. The commission adopted the budget amendment by roll-call vote; the clerk recorded "yes" from Commissioners Arts, Coughlin, Moore, Morgan, Mosley and Mayor Kepley.
Finally, the commission approved a resolution adopting a revised rates, fees and charges schedule effective July 1. The fee changes adjust water meter costs and update clerk's office service charges (including a nonresident notary fee); the resolution passed by roll-call vote with all present commissioners voting yes.
