Board approves $791,484 mechanical-systems contract for Grandville Public Schools

The Grandville Public Schools Board of Education voted to approve a mechanical upgrade package that district staff said will replace boilers at East and West elementary schools, replace the chiller at Century Park and add a cooling tower at the high school. The administration presented a qualified bid total of $719,531, plus contingency and allowances, bringing the project total to $791,484.

District facilities staff summarized the schedule and scope, saying the work is expected to begin after Labor Day and be wrapped up by the holiday break at the end of December. "We are going to replace the boilers at East and West with this bid, and the chiller at Century Park, and a cooling tower at the high school," a district staff member stated during the meeting.

Board members asked whether district staff would participate in installation and how warranty and certification requirements would be handled. The staff member replied the district would not perform certified installation work but would monitor the project and participate in construction meeting updates with the architect and contractor; certified inspections and vendor warranties would apply.

A roll-call vote approved the motion to issue a letter of intent and award the contract as recommended. The board asked staff to report back on contractor performance when the projects are complete.
