Foxon groundbreaking announced for FireHouse expansion; blasting to begin at adjacent site; former Rite Aid in Foxon sold

Town economic development staff reported progress on several Foxon-area redevelopment projects at the Jan. 14 Economic Development Commission meeting.
Rich Coppola said a groundbreaking was held for upcoming expansion and improvements to the FireHouse at 1420 N High Street in Foxon. Coppola added that blasting will begin next Tuesday at the site of the old Foxon Country House/Season's Restaurant as part of nearby site work.
Coppola also reported that the former Rite Aid building in Foxon has been sold; he said the former Rite Aid on Main Street has a potential lease/sale in negotiation. He characterized the difficulty of repurposing former drugstore sites as a challenge facing economic directors nationwide.
The commission did not take formal action on these items at the meeting. Coppola said he hopes a Planning & Zoning representative will attend the commission's next meeting and that he and Mayor Carfora will meet with the Connecticut Restaurant Association's president and CEO in the coming weeks to discuss local business issues.
