Oscoda County commissioners approve multiple personnel moves, budget schedule and retirement purchase

The Oscoda County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 22 approved a slate of personnel and budget-related actions, including making a contingent EMS worker a full-time paramedic, authorizing a part-time Veterans Affairs hire, permitting a payroll specialist extra hours to support elections, adopting the 2025 budget review schedule and approving a two-year MERS service purchase for a deputy.
At the meeting in Mio, EMS Director Robert Stankiewicz asked the board to acknowledge moving Andrew Ringwelski from a contingent employee to a full-time paramedic effective Oct. 21, 2024, with a starting wage of $19.14 per hour and eligibility for county benefits. Commissioners Bondar and McCauley moved and seconded the motion (2024-281); the board approved it by a 5-0 vote.
County Administrator Michelle Knepp presented a request to advertise and hire a part-time, non-union administrative position in Veterans Affairs, to work up to 28 hours per week without county benefits. Commissioners Bondar and Handrich moved the hiring authorization (2024-282); the motion passed on a roll-call vote with all commissioners voting yes.
The board authorized Payroll Specialist Jenny Cronkright to work an additional five hours during Nov. 3'Nov. 9, 2024, to assist with election duties and payroll reporting, amending the budget accordingly (motion 2024-283). The board also approved the 2025 Budget Review schedule presented by Executive Secretary Rene Welser, which sets committee review the week of Nov. 4 and schedules proposed budget action for Nov. 26 and final adoption on Dec. 17 (motion 2024-284).
In personnel benefits action, the board authorized Deputy Bradley Wymer to purchase two years of additional credited service from the Municipal Employees' Retirement System at a cost of $29,882.00 and authorized the chair to sign the agreement (motion 2024-285). That motion passed unanimously.
All motions in this package were recorded as carried by unanimous votes. The board adjourned at 11:22 a.m. and will meet next on Nov. 12, 2024.
