The Board of County Commissioners of Calvert County closed a public hearing and voted to accept a Maryland 9‑1‑1 Board grant totaling $171,696.71 to acquire a five‑year subscription to DATAMARK geographic information system (GIS) services.
Stanley Harris of the Department of Public Safety’s Emergency Communications Division described the DATAMARK contract as providing two core services: vendor man‑hours (to perform GIS work the county might otherwise hire staff to do) and a data‑validation/upload resource that compares local GIS data to national next‑generation 9‑1‑1 schema and identifies errors for correction. "When someone calls 911, their address is gonna be right," Harris said, summarizing the public‑safety rationale for the software.
Staff told the board there is no local cost match required for the award and requested that the board adopt a resolution and an amendment to the intergovernmental revenue and capital expenditures to include the DATAMARK grant. A motion to close the record and enact the resolution and budget amendment was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
During brief follow‑up, staff said the Emergency Communications Division had six vacancies and was actively interviewing to fill positions with an expected onboarding timeline by the end of July.
The approved budget amendment will allow the county to proceed with purchasing and implementing the DATAMARK software subscription and associated services.
