On June 18 the Planning Commission adopted the draft 2025 Calvert County, Maryland annual report and directed staff to file it as required by state statute.
Planner Tay Harris summarized the report's contents and statutory basis, referencing Title 1-207 of the Land Use Article of the Maryland Code, which requires local planning commissions to prepare and file an annual report. Harris said the report compiles 2024 indicators including minor subdivisions, site plan approvals (18 in 2024), capital projects (21 funded), and a development-capacity analysis the department plans to update once the zoning ordinance changes are finalized.
Harris highlighted land-preservation figures in the report: the comprehensive-plan goal to preserve 40,000 acres and a reported 32,639 acres preserved as of Dec. 31, 2024 (representing roughly 82% of the goal). The report also summarized minor-subdivision approvals (nine approved in 2024), residential units constructed (99 in 2024) and other tabulations of units and acreage inside and outside the county's Priority Funding Area.
A commissioner moved that the commission adopt and direct staff to file the draft report; the motion was seconded and passed on a 6-0 vote. Harris said staff will forward the report per statutory process to the Board of County Commissioners and to the Maryland Department of Planning per the statute.
