County Manager Al Meadows presented the outstanding 2018 SPLOST project list and said the board should focus on roads and infrastructure. Commissioner Randy Sellers urged completion of the Piney Bluff Road paving project; the board approved moving forward on the three road projects by unanimous vote.
Fire Chief Linton DeLoach told commissioners he has a comprehensive plan for the use of remaining SPLOST funds for fire-department needs and related infrastructure. Board members noted that repairs to the Heritage Center are expected to be completed during the current calendar year.
The board also directed County Manager Meadows and Ms. Marchant to meet Feb. 7 to confirm seating capacity and options for installing bleachers at the Young Farmers' tractor-pull area, a project tied to event safety and SPLOST-eligible site improvements.
The decision does not specify dollar amounts or a final project schedule; commissioners discussed sequencing and staff follow-up but made no additional appropriations during the Feb. 6 meeting. The board adjourned the called session at 4:00 P.M.
