Appling County adopts updated environmental health fees and 2024 election qualifying fees

Appling County commissioners unanimously approved updates to environmental health service fees and adopted qualifying fees for the May 2024 election at their Jan. 9 meeting.
County Manager Al Meadows introduced a request from David Brown, Environmental Health Specialist for the Appling County Health Department, to revise fees for services that include drinking-water sampling, food-service inspections, sewage inspection and permitting, public swimming-pool oversight, rabies control and regulation of tattoo and body-art studios. David Brown provided a fee proposal that the Health Department Board had discussed and approved; Commissioner Daryl Edwards noted the proposed fees align with surrounding counties and moved to adopt the changes. The motion passed unanimously.
Meadows also presented the compiled list of qualifying fees prepared by County Clerk Robyn Evans and reviewed by the County Attorney. Commissioner Doug Harris moved to adopt the qualifying fees so they can be advertised in the local newspaper; the board approved the action unanimously.
