At the June 3 workshop, the Old Village Association presented two community-engagement projects and sought the council’s support for promotion.
Nancy Plank of the Old Village Association said the organization would not run its fall Oktoberfest this year and instead plans a smaller 'Taste Around the World' food-truck festival at Live Oak Park on Sept. 26 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. "We're starting it out small... We hope everybody enjoys this," Plank said, asking council to help publicize the event.
Plank introduced Barry Wilson of AlphaGraphics, who described a plan to sponsor and install six permanent selfie stations at points of interest (Sands Beach, wetlands, Paris Avenue and other locations). Wilson said QR codes on the stations would link to Town or Old Village webpages with information about each feature to promote tourism and local businesses.
During public comment, Shannon Baltziger, CEO of Stoneworks, asked the town to help promote a countertop raffle tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary. Baltziger said customers buying countertops between June 1 and July 2 would qualify for a refund raffle and asked the town to assist with local publicity.
Council thanked the groups and asked staff to coordinate promotion; no votes were taken.
