Woodbury County supervisors unanimously approved a $10 million liability insurance policy for 2026 after Human Resources presented renewal options.
Melissa Thomas, from Woodbury County Human Resources, told the board the county received three offers. She recommended keeping the existing $10,000,000 coverage at a quoted premium of $407,000, an increase she characterized as "an additional $50,000 for the year." Thomas said the package covers general liability, employee benefits liability, law enforcement liability, automobile liability and public official liability.
Board members discussed cost pressures before voting. On a motion recorded as "Motion by Nelson, seconded by Dietrich," the board approved the recommended Obsidian special insurance policy with $10,000,000 coverage and a $300,000 deductible; the chair announced the motion passed 5-0.
The approval keeps the county at its current coverage limit while accepting a higher premium for the coming year. No follow-up tasks or further conditions were stated during the meeting.
