Planning Board recommends approval of 114‑foot AT&T cell tower at Moyers Corner

The Town of Clay Planning Board voted unanimously June 10 to recommend the Town Board approve a special permit for a 114‑foot public utility cell tower proposed at 7200 Henry Clay Blvd.

Mark Fuentes of Airosmith Development told the board the applicant proposes a 114‑foot monopole on a 3.6‑acre parcel to be leased from the Moyers Corner Volunteer Fire Department and sited between the fire department and West Taft Road. Fuentes said an FAA report was submitted and the applicant will coordinate with county and town agencies on easements and tree preservation. “The applicant is requesting a special permit to construct a 114‑foot public utility cell tower,” Fuentes said.

Board members noted Onondaga County Planning Board comments asking that county easements (including OCWA infrastructure) not be encroached upon and that as much existing tree and shrub cover be retained. The board discussed safety and engineering issues including the applicant’s stated 135‑foot fall zone and carrier vehicle turning radii. Planning Department staff will verify FAA permitting and confirm any county easement constraints before the Town Board takes final action.

Jim Palumbo moved the recommendation to approve using the town’s standard Special Permit Recommendations form; Paul Graves seconded. The roll call showed Henty, Guinup, Graves, Palumbo, Mitchell and Chairwoman Michelle Borton in favor; the motion carried 6‑0.

Next steps: the Planning Board’s action is a recommendation to the Town Board, which will make the final permit decision and may impose permit conditions or additional agency referrals.
