Commissioners honor World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and Juneteenth; approve several board appointments

Tanya Taylor, client services manager with the Office on Aging, and ombudsmen Amy Boucher and Larry Harvey joined the board for a proclamation recognizing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (noted in the meeting as observed on June 15). The board read a proclamation emphasizing awareness, community partnerships, and protective services for older adults.
Deborah Harris, president of the Calvert County NAACP, accepted a Juneteenth proclamation and summarized plans for the organization’s Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum celebration on June 14 (11 a.m.–5 p.m.), including a kids’ zone, vendors, a car show, and afternoon music performances.
Staff presented several recommended appointments and reappointments. The board reappointed Matthew Keane and Edmond Shamleffer to the Building Board, appointed Jacqueline Turnbu (military spouse/veteran caregiver representative) and Mike Mells (local business owner representative) to the Commission for Veteran and Military Families, reappointed Dr. Daniel Curry to the Cove Point Light Station Commission, appointed Sarah Shields and Kristen Fuller to the Environmental Commission, and appointed Thomas Phelps to the Sheriff’s Office Pension Plan Board of Trustees. Each recommendation was moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote.
The clerk also reminded residents that boards and commissions have vacancies and that information is posted on the county website.
