Cheverly council approves three community grants; residents preview spring events

After staff and neighborhood representatives described three small grant applications, the council voted unanimously to fund Cheverly Village, the Cheverly Women's Club and the Cheverly Community Market.
Leila Riazi (Ward 1) spoke in support of the Cheverly Village request, saying the application was intentionally below $2,000 so the group could deliver results and return later with further requests. Joyce Lang of the Women's Club described plans for a "Love Along" outreach program and a $500 history project to engage younger residents with local history.
Town staff confirmed the amounts recorded in the packet (Cheverly Village, $1,125; Women's Club, $2,000; Community Market, $2,000). Council member Frey moved to approve all three; the motion was seconded and the council adopted the grants 5-0.
In other community updates, the Recreation Council and Cheverly Day Committee previewed upcoming events including adult game night, an Easter egg hunt, and Chev Week and the town's 95th anniversary parade. Organizers asked the town to notify transit and county partners about any road closures for parade routing.
