Commission recommends $85,000 design contract for South Pond dredging; approves $10,000 budget amendment

Committee member (speaker 5) moved to recommend acceptance of MSA’s proposal for $85,000; a colleague (speaker 1) seconded the motion. The commission then approved the recommendation by voice vote with no members recorded as opposed.
Commission members also moved and approved a separate budget amendment to increase the applicable line item by $10,000 so the finance office will see an $85,000 allocation when it processes the design agreement.
The staff presentation noted that the $85,000 figure covers engineering services to design the dredging and not the physical dredging work itself; the design will support a future competitive procurement of the dredging contract. Staff also said the city has a separate capital improvement project (CIP) that could consider a later South Pond expansion, but the current action is strictly for design to restore the existing pond footprint.
The motion is a recommendation to finance and counsel; final authorization to contract will occur when those bodies review and approve the agreement.
The commission scheduled further budget and CIP discussion in next month’s meeting packet, where staff will present details on funding and any potential scheduling changes.
