Smithfield honors community volunteers, announces Arbor Day winners

At its June 24 meeting the Smithfield City Council recognized Kari Hoggan as the Lions Club 2026 Citizen of the Year for her leadership with the Health Days Ambassador Pageant and long community service. Amy Anderson, president of the Smithfield City Lions Club, presented a plaque and praised Hoggan’s efforts to revive and grow the program.
Jeff Barnes announced the winners of the citywide Arbor Day poster contest, which included K–6 entries from all three local elementary schools under the theme tied to America250. Councilmembers thanked volunteers and noted ongoing community events this summer, including the Storybook Festival and concerts in the park.
Councilmembers encouraged residents to attend upcoming events and thanked volunteers for their civic participation.
