Fire chief warns Smithfield residents: Stage 2 fire restrictions mean no fireworks

Fire Chief Jeremy Hunt said Stage 2, effective June 26, 2026, prohibits fireworks and open fires of any kind; only devices using pressurized liquid or gas fuels with shut-off valves (for example, stoves, grills or lanterns) are allowed if used at least three feet from flammable material. Chief Hunt noted northern Utah wildfires and that local personnel have been deployed in mutual aid to out-of-area incidents.
Police Chief Travis Allen said officers typically issue warnings for first-time illegal-fireworks offenses and citations for serious violations; he said illegal fireworks can be seized and urged residents to call non-emergency dispatch for concerns.
Officials asked residents to remain vigilant through the forecast period of high winds and lightning and to follow posted restrictions to reduce wildfire risk.
