Dragon Boat Beaufort representatives presented briefly at the April 1 Port Royal workshop to promote their June 27 fundraiser and describe the nonprofit’s local assistance work.
Chris Jones (speaker 3) said last year the organization provided $81,754.94 in financial assistance — to cover expenses such as mortgage, rent and insurance for Beaufort County residents undergoing cancer treatment — and set a 2026 fundraising goal of $90,000. Jones said the event will be staged next to Fish Camp in Waterfront Park, with the first heat scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and an anticipated finish by mid‑afternoon; Showring, Fish Camp and Safe Harbor are among listed sponsors and partners.
Jones told the council the organization sold most sponsorship opportunities and filled a 24-team field (the group’s cutoff this year). The nonprofit said funds are distributed through hospital or medical-center social workers to clients who live, work or receive treatment in Beaufort County.
The mayor and council thanked the group and asked staff to coordinate event logistics with police and town staff.
