The town voted to renew its AIM Medical Trust coverage and to add short- and long-term disability options for full-time employees at a special meeting called because renewal rates arrived late.
Tara, who conducted the roll call and presented a packet comparing plan details, told the council AIM’s comparable plan would be slightly cheaper in at least one apples‑to‑apples comparison and that the town’s medical premium on the presented worksheet showed a roughly 3% decrease compared with a prior projection. She also highlighted a one-time November premium holiday in the trust’s history and noted vision rates are guaranteed through 2029.
After questions about eligibility for part-time employees and elected officials, Tara said she would confirm with the AIM Medical Trust whether part-time staff or an elected official such as the town’s part‑time officer Drew could be included under employer-paid ancillary coverage and, if AIM could not provide coverage, she would obtain quotes from Globe Life for supplemental short- and long-term disability.
Chair made the motion to select AIM Trust Plan 5 (the motion cited a total of $3,821.34 as the renewal amount), to offer short-term and long-term disability for full-time employees starting with Plan 2 for both coverages, and to extend those options to part-time employees if allowed under the salary ordinance or insurer rules. The motion was seconded. A council member then amended the motion to specify vision Option 2 and to keep the town’s basic life coverage at Plan 1; the amendment was seconded and included in the motion.
The chair called for a show of hands and the motion carried by voice vote. The clerk will submit the renewal paperwork to AIM and follow up on part‑time eligibility.
Tara also reminded the council of upcoming administrative matters, including code book corrections and notice of a future public hearing on levy items. The meeting adjourned after the vote.
