Council weighs pavilion repair estimates and larger park renovation grants

Parks staff told the Kingsford Heights Town Council on July 28 that pavilion repairs are more extensive than expected and presented two estimates: roughly $6,500 to remove shingles and repair rotted wood with reshingling, or about $7,400 to replace with metal roofing.
The parks representative said some grants that could fund larger renovation work typically require significant matching shares and are not small. "There is money out there to renovate, but it would require that particular grant would be a 10% match, or there's some that are like a 50% match," the presenter said, urging the council to consider parks work under a broader renovation umbrella.
Council members discussed whether to patch the pavilion now or plan for a larger rebuild, noted ADA compliance issues that could trigger additional required work, and asked staff to gather more cost estimates and identify which park projects could fit under grant programs.
Separately, staff reported a $24,000 exterior-painting estimate for the community center and asked whether the council wanted to include that in next year’s budget; the council asked staff to prepare budget estimates for upcoming workshops.
No capital-authorizing vote was taken at the meeting; the council directed staff to return with additional estimates and to consider ADA and grant requirements.
