Kennard council approves purchase of lift-station access, pothole repairs and ADA transition resolution

Kennard’s regular town meeting on Oct. 8, 2025, approved a set of routine actions including the purchase of a parcel to provide vehicular access to a town lift station, an authorization for pothole repairs and adoption of an ADA transition-plan resolution.
Steve, the meeting chair, said the town had completed a survey and was prepared to sign an agreement for an access road to the lift station located on Mr. and Mrs. Freeman’s property. “The sale price for the property for the road is $5,950,” Steve said before moving that the town purchase the parcel. Holly seconded the motion; the council recorded the motion as carried, 2–0. The council agreed to sign the agreement and to follow up on title and closing procedures.
Council members also approved funding for local pothole repairs. The council reviewed a contractor estimate from JT Strenchie that the clerk described as about $900 to fill potholes on Rosewood and South Main; to cover additional work at Canterbury Lake Estates, Steve moved to authorize up to $2,000 with JT Strenchie to address Rosewood, South Main and Canterbury Lake Estates potholes. Holly seconded and the motion passed, 2–0.
On grant-administration matters, the council accepted Resolution 10-8-25-01, an ADA transition plan the town must adopt to qualify for the state Community Crossings grant program. Steve said a public meeting to discuss the ADA resolution was scheduled for Nov. 12, 2025. Holly seconded the resolution; the council approved it 2–0.
The meeting also approved routine bills. Council members reviewed a sewer-pump purchase listed at about $11,000. After a motion to accept the bills and a second, the council approved the bills on a recorded voice vote of 2–0.
The clerk and council discussed a separate administrative matter: several mailed checks placed in the municipal mailbox had not reached recipients and may need to be reissued; staff said they would follow up. The meeting adjourned at 7:41 p.m.
Why it matters: approving the access parcel allows town crews and contractors to reach a lift station for maintenance and repair; adopting the ADA transition plan keeps the town eligible to apply for state roadway funding through Community Crossings; and authorizing pothole repairs and the pump purchase addresses immediate infrastructure and public-safety needs.
