Romeoville welcomes Consul General of Pakistan, honors Girl Scout and issues multiple proclamations

The Romeoville Village Board on June 17 hosted the Consul General of Pakistan in Chicago, recognized a local Girl Scout for earning her Gold Award, and issued several proclamations including Pollinator Week, Juneteenth and the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The Consul General addressed the board and presented a FIFA football made in Pakistan to Mayor John Nook as a gesture of friendship. The consul said, "This is my 1st visit to your beautiful village, Romeoville," and noted that Pakistan supplies the footballs seen during the FIFA World Cup.

Mayor John Nook thanked the consulate and praised the village's Pakistani community for its contributions. At the pollinator proclamation, the mayor said the village met and exceeded its goal of 100 Monarch Way Stations and stated Romeoville is second in Illinois in concentration of Monarch Way Stations, behind Chicago.

Keegan, introduced at the meeting as a Girl Scout Gold Award recipient, described her Gold Award project: "For my gold award, I created 20 suitcases for a local agency in Joliet, for kids in foster care transferring to their new homes." The board presented her with a certificate.

The meeting also included formal proclamations for Juneteenth (June 19, 2026) with local event notices and a proclamation marking the nation's 250th anniversary with a list of upcoming community events and fireworks planned for early July.

These items were presented and adopted as proclamations; no formal vote was required beyond the board's assent during the meeting.
