Romeoville board approves $100,000 contract for on‑site clinician with Association for Individual Development

The Romeoville Village Board on June 17 voted to approve a year‑long, $100,000 contract with the Association for Individual Development (AID) to provide an on‑site victim services case manager for police and fire incidents.

Chief Matt, describing the joint police‑fire initiative, said, "We're seeking the approval for the expenditure of a $100,000 to support a year long partnership with this group." He told the board the clinician would be based in Romeoville, with a schedule of three days per week at the police department and two days per week at the fire department and "24/7 on call availability" to respond to crisis calls.

The chief said the funding is "derived entirely from the opioid settlement fund," a pool of payments from manufacturers, distributors and pharmacies tied to national litigation over the opioid epidemic. He framed the contract as an expansion of the village's longstanding social‑services unit and as a way to increase sustained support for residents encountering mental‑health and substance‑use crises.

Motion to approve the resolution was made by Trustee Clayton and seconded by Trustee Griffin. During the roll call on the motion, Trustee Clancy, Trustee Griffin, Trustee Chavez and Trustee Aguirre recorded "Aye," and the mayor declared the motion carried.

The contract was presented as a service‑delivery and public‑safety measure aimed at reducing repeated crisis calls and improving long‑term outcomes for vulnerable residents.
