Residents ask Cherokee County to use optional Sunday voting day after a holiday canceled an early-voting date

Multiple residents asked the Cherokee County Board of Elections and Registration to consider using an optional Sunday early-voting day to replace an early-voting date that was canceled because it fell on a state holiday.
Linda Kiminski described workers with hourly schedules who find it difficult to attend weekday voting and asked the board to consider using one of two optional Sunday voting days to fill the gap created when an early-voting day was canceled. Barbara Andrew and others supported the idea as a 'get out the vote' opportunity; Andrew said, "I hope that you will consider and put a Sunday voting day here in Cherokee County." Janet Wilson and other commenters said lower turnout and voter doubts about ballot verifiability make expanded access important.
Board members acknowledged the request and said they will research the feasibility of replacing the canceled date with a Sunday voting day and will include Anne (an absent member) in that discussion. The chair told commenters the board will post findings and have decisions at the September meeting.
No formal change to the early-voting schedule was made at the meeting; board staff will research statutory constraints, operational issues and return with recommendations at a future meeting.
