The Kennard Town Board voted to join the Henry County multi-hazard mitigation plan and authorized the sale of a parcel that will provide access to the town's wastewater lift station.
Board members discussed the benefits of joining the county plan so the town can "take part in that if we wanna recover from a disaster of some sort," a committee member said during the meeting. The committee member moved to adopt the resolution identified in the meeting as 9-10-2025-01; the motion carried 3-0.
On a separate item the board reviewed a legal description, a survey and a buyer's price for a narrow strip of land to create a lane to the lift station. The board president said the town has the survey and a price and moved to accept the buyer's offer "pending a final agreement being signed." The board approved that motion 3-0.
Board members discussed logistics to complete the sale quickly because the prospective buyer asked to close before planting season. The board noted the deed must be signed in person; the buyer indicated he could sign at a location of convenience and requested a prompt closing. The president said a special meeting may be scheduled if necessary to finalize the paperwork.
The town did not provide additional detail about ordinance or deed exceptions and said the sale remains contingent on a final signed agreement and completion of standard legal steps. The board directed staff to proceed with finalizing documents and to return to the board for any required formal approval.
The board adopted the resolution and approved the sale pending a final deed and agreement. The meeting record shows the votes as unanimous among the members present; no dissenting votes were recorded.
The board is expected to reconvene if required to execute the final documents and complete the transfer.
