Kankakee Valley School Corporation board adopts resolutions to advance bond and lease actions; approves routine personnel and purchases

On Sept. 8, 2025, the Kankakee Valley School Corporation board voted unanimously to adopt two resolutions that advance projects tied to the bond approved at the previous meeting and to approve the form of a lease agreement connected to that effort. The board also approved routine personnel items, vendor purchases and donations listed on the agenda.
The board adopted Resolution 2025-17, described by staff as “determining the need for projects based upon the bond that was approved last board meeting,” and then approved Resolution 2025-18, described as approving the form of the lease agreement related to the work. Staff told the board these actions will clear the way for additional steps at an Oct. 13 meeting, when the board will hold hearings on the lease and an additional appropriation tied to the bond issue.
Staff reported the corporation had held a public hearing with the Kankakee Valley Teachers Association at 5 p.m. under Indiana code regarding teacher compensation and collective bargaining; two patrons provided public testimony. "The Kankakee Valley School Corporation did hold a public hearing this evening with the Kankakee Valley Teachers Association," staff said during the meeting.
During the regular agenda the board approved standard items by voice vote, recorded repeatedly as unanimous (7–0). Approvals included: two employee resignations; leave requests; the appointment of a certified long-term substitute for DuPont Elementary School; several classified positions; one internal transfer; acceptance of listed donations; approval of a volunteer placement to allow an individual identified as Dee to lock the Kankakee Valley Middle School kitchen for two hours to satisfy a college requirement; and approval of professional leagues as listed on the agenda.
The board also authorized purchases from Peerless Midwest for two well pumps to replace pumps serving the intermediate school and the middle school. Staff characterized the purchase as necessary replacements for school infrastructure; no dollar amounts were provided in the meeting record.
All motions recorded on the audio transcript were moved and seconded and carried by unanimous voice votes. The board signed the routine items and then proceeded to a work session. The next regular meeting on Oct. 13 will include public hearings on the lease and additional appropriation tied to the bond, along with related resolutions to form a building corporation and actions authorizing bond issuance.
What’s next: The board will move forward with the public hearing process on Oct. 13; staff indicated materials and additional disclosures related to the bond and lease will be brought to that meeting for review.
