For the Carpenter property, S5 described the hearing process required by statute: owners will be notified and have the chance to present evidence; if the council affirms the order it can move toward demolition. The council approved the demolition order and directed staff to publish the notice and use the marshal to assist with service if necessary.
For the Calvert Ashcraft property, S5 said the town would send notice of a sealing order and owners would have 10 days to request a hearing; the council approved issuing the sealing order and asked staff to prepare service copies.
What happens next: Staff will finalize and serve orders and return hearing dates and documentation to the council; the Carpenter property will require a formal hearing before demolition can occur. The council discussed scheduling the hearing at or before the March meeting and agreed staff should pursue additional service methods for owners who are difficult to reach.
