Sioux Rapids approves clinic change order and contractor payments, pool to open May 30

Sioux Rapids — The Sioux Rapids City Council on Wednesday approved a set of construction and vendor payments tied to ongoing local projects, including the Sioux Rapids Health Clinic rehabilitation.
Representatives from CMBA and Graves Construction addressed the council about the clinic project and explained why recent change orders increased the contract amount, citing materials, code requirements and scheduling. The council approved Resolution No. 930 to accept Change Order No. 4 (amended amount) and Resolution No. 931 approving Pay Application No. 4.
Following the vote, the council authorized payment to Graves Construction for $79,190.46 for work on the Sioux Rapids Health Clinic. Councilmembers present voted aye; two members were absent. The council also approved payments to Christian Bros. Excavating L.C. ($6,179.65 for water leak work and demolition of the Star Theater; $4,995.00 for a gas leak), Ferguson Waterworks ($13,974.98 for a 3-inch water meter for a school addition), two invoices to Spectrum Paint ($2,211.24 and $632.24 for pool paint) and Hawkins ($1,016.83 for pool chemicals).
Councilmembers talked about recruiting volunteers for a pool fundraising board, forming an economic development board, and checking advisory board vacancies (Park Board, Library Board, Zoning Board and Board of Adjustments). The council announced the Sioux Rapids Swimming Pool will open for the season on May 30.
What’s next: The council scheduled a bid letting for USDA Well #4 on June 3 at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall and tabled a decision on tree removal bids pending additional information. The next regular council meeting is set for June 10, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
