At its meeting the Town of Kirkland council approved multiple financial actions and heard several community updates.
Votes at a glance: the council adopted resolution 2025-8-3 to appropriate $5,000 to the park donation fund for benches and trash receptacles; adopted resolution 2025-8-2 to appropriate $30,000 (unrestricted MBH) for street repairs and $20,000 (restricted MBH) for maintenance to be included in the 2026 budget; approved payout requests on the sanitary sewer rehabilitation project (payout #4 for $180,261.96 and payout #5 for $31,249.13); and approved payment to Commonwealth Engineers for $17,005.84. The council also approved a sewer adjustment for Luke Weddington in the amount of $51.72.
Park and events: staff reported six additional park benches (12 total), ongoing fundraising for more benches and 6–8 trash receptacles, and plans to procure playground equipment for 2–5 and 6–12 age groups. A resident proposed and self-identified as Joel Buncho to build and register a Little Free Library and requested placement suggestions (park pavilion or Main Street near the Alumni Bench); council members directed him to coordinate with Farmers Bank and town staff. Council also agreed to assist a benefit ride organizer seeking a temporary street closure and barricades to support a family fundraiser.
Contract and payment details: there was brief discussion about retainage rules: retainage is held until punch list items are complete and approved. A council member made motions to approve the contractor payouts and engineering invoice; motions were seconded and carried by voice/hand vote.
The council signed necessary documents and asked staff to confirm invoice amounts and to follow up on any outstanding punch-list items before final retainage release.
