During the public-comment period, a resident raised safety concerns at a curve near Jefferson and Perry by Madison and State Road 421, saying they nearly were struck twice in one week while walking with a stroller.
The resident, TJ, told the council: “2 times in 1 week I almost got hit by someone speeding around there because it's so hard to see around that corner.” Council members noted the town has previously asked INDOT for vehicle counts and that past studies did not meet the agency’s thresholds for a signal. One council member described proposing a caution-style crossing signal with crosswalk buttons but said INDOT reported no plans or funding for such a system.
Council members agreed to check past correspondence and studies with INDOT and to consider a new letter or petition if updated counts justify mitigation. Staff said they would look up the year and results of prior counts and report back; the council encouraged the resident to provide video or footage to supplement the record.
The discussion did not produce an immediate traffic-control action but did result in a staff follow-up to verify prior studies and to determine whether to request a new traffic study from the state agency.
