Kenner board discusses repeated street flooding, approves pothole repairs and gravel for sewer plant

The Kenner Town Board spent significant time April 9 addressing recurring street flooding and drainage failures and approving short-term maintenance contracts to prevent further damage.
Board member Gross and the chair described flooding problems on North Vine, South Vine, Plum, Martindale and Hinshaw streets, citing older brick catch basins that have partially collapsed and alley elevations that prevent runoff from reaching drains. "When the heavy rains came, of course, it was flooded here," Gross said as members discussed options ranging from localized drains to larger storm-sewer projects.
Because major storm-sewer work can reach six- or seven-figure costs, the board focused on immediate, lower-cost measures. Chair moved to hire JT’s Crenching to soft-cut and spot-fix potholes across town for $950; that motion passed. The board also considered two estimates to deliver four tri-axle loads of gravel for the main sewer plant; after reviewing bids they approved contracting Hastings (JT/contractor names varied in the transcript) for $3,400 to deliver four loads and smooth the plant parking area.
Members said they will request pipe inspections (CCTV) and consult county surveyor Steve Ross about potential plugged outlets and the John R. Judge Ditch. Where state roads are implicated, they agreed to seek INDOT review. The board also discussed the logistics of installing high-water closed signs on local routes and purchasing nameplates for meeting identification, both of which were approved for purchase during the meeting.
