At its April 9 meeting the Kenner Town Board heard urgent reports about service access and a failing pump at the town’s wastewater lift station, and members agreed to pursue prices and possible special-meeting authorization for emergency repairs.
Chair described a proposed gravel access path around the lift station and said mapping on a superintendent’s phone app had estimated the work area at roughly a third to three-quarters of an acre. "We need to get in there just as soon as possible," the Chair said, noting one pump had failed and the other had been heavily worked during recent storms.
Board members and staff discussed setbacks and turning radii — a working width of about 16 feet along most of the path and about 18 feet near the station so a larger truck or crane can back up to the pump housings. Concerns included a nearby telephone pole, a guide wire and whether Duke (utility) would relocate or replace the pole if needed.
The Chair said he would contact county surveyor Steve Ross and ask INDOT to inspect an outlet near John R. Judge Ditch. Board members suggested obtaining contractor quotes quickly and holding a 48‑hour-notice special meeting if the work required authorization outside a regular session.
The discussion did not produce a final contract that night; the board directed staff to gather cost estimates and report back so the board can decide on emergency action or schedule work in the regular procurement cycle.
