At the Dec. 17 meeting Sheriff Grace announced that it was his last official Board of Commissioners meeting and thanked the board, past boards and staff for their support. In his remarks he said, “We may not always agree, but we have been able to work through everything that we have done thus far,” and urged county leaders to “take care of your people.”
During the public-comments period Treasurer William Kendall asked whether the county planned to hold winter dog clinics following interruptions during the COVID period and cited public health concerns such as rabies. Kendall said the Treasurer's Office offers tags at half price through March 1. Michelle Knepp agreed to work with Animal Control to coordinate a clinic in January 2025 and thanked Elk County for prior collaboration on clinics.
Chair Charles E. Varner and other commissioners reflected on recent facility projects, thanked Sheriff Grace for his 17 years as sheriff (39½ years total county service) and noted plans for upcoming open houses for the new government center and sheriff's office.
The minutes record these comments during the public-comments section and note the board's appreciation and transition planning; no formal board action was recorded on the dog clinic request beyond staff coordination.
