Residents and community groups raise fairgrounds addition, deed and community center issues during public comment

Maintenance Supervisor Rick Burton said the Tractor Club intends to build a 24-by-24-foot addition onto the fairgrounds building at no cost to the county and will submit drawings for board approval at the next meeting. Commissioners asked about the addition’s proximity to the school; Burton said the extension would be toward the south of the schoolhouse and he will measure and report back.
Burton also reported that Lydia’s Gate has proposed using the community center for bingo events; the board discussed rental policies and the possibility of charging a cleaning fee for non-profit groups that leave excessive messes. EDC Chair Deb Coulon said she had recently attended an event at the community center and that it "was the cleanest that she had ever seen it and it looked great. Kudos to Scott for a job well done." The board directed staff to review fee structure, cleaning requirements and contract terms for the community center with recommendations to come before year-end.
A Greenwood Township resident described a longstanding issue obtaining a quit-claim deed adjustment for property purchased in 2002 and asked for assistance; Commissioners McCauley and Marsh told the resident they would speak with him after the meeting.
