Adult ESL students and teacher highlight program benefits at board meeting

Several students addressed the board. Hector Ramos, calling from Bogotá, Colombia, said, "I'm very grateful for this opportunity." Perla, introduced as an ESL student, told the board: "This program has been so useful and fun at the same time." Other adult learners — Erica, Judith and Israel (Judith's husband) — also thanked the district and complimented Ito's instruction.
Board members commended the students for their courage to speak publicly and praised the program's family-engagement elements such as bilingual 'We Both Read' books that allow parents and children to read together in English and Spanish. The board offered thanks and applause; no formal action was required or taken on the program.
