Selectmen authorize Priority Power as town's community power agent, and ask for energy-committee briefing

The Board of Selectmen on June 22 authorized town staff to notify the Public Utilities Commission and Eversource that Priority Power will act as Litchfield's community power agent, following the company's acquisition of Standard Power earlier this year.
Priority Power representatives Eric Suninski and Julian Kaplan told the board they had contacted Eversource to request the redacted aggregation usage report needed to solicit competitive supplier bids and that the company intends to reopen conversations in towns that previously did not execute final contracts.
Suninski said the company will provide a town-specific website, customer service contacts and an opt-out process that mirrors statutory and PUC-approved procedures. Board members emphasized that the energy committee should review Priority Power's consumer-facing materials and ask for clarity about customer service, opt-out ease and any services Standard Power had promised but did not deliver.
Selectmen moved to authorize the town administrator to sign the notification allowing Priority Power to act as agent and to have the energy committee meet with the company; the motion passed 5-0-0.
The energy committee abstained when the vote was taken because one member sits on that committee; the board directed staff to schedule a presentation to the energy committee and to the Selectmen before any final contract or aggregation agreement is executed.
