At the board meeting the district showcased a staff professional-development immersion to QuerE9taro, Mexico, that participants said improved their Spanish and cultural competence.
Miss Garrison introduced the program and Dr. Durazo and other staff described two weeks of morning classes, afternoon conversational practice and homestays. Presenters said they toured local schools, museums and markets and practiced high-yield instructional strategies that they can apply in district classrooms. "It was such a rewarding experience to learn the language, history, customs, and traditions of Mexico's beautiful culture," Dr. Durazo said.
A board member asked how many staff attended; presenters said 11 people went (10 teachers and one leader) and noted that the two-week commitment and late-May timing can limit participation. Presenters encouraged colleagues to consider the program for future professional development.
The district also announced expansion of Lincoln Prep Academy to include sixth grade and additional preschool opportunities as part of its broader staffing and program planning for the coming school year.
