Littleton board to seek interim superintendent, continues search for permanent hire

The Littleton Elementary School District governing board discussed its search for a successor to the district's retiring superintendent and said it plans to recruit an interim leader while continuing a full search for a permanent hire.
The board's presiding officer said the district hired Ray and Associates to assist with the search and that the board expects to circulate search materials in October or November, gather community feedback in November and December, and target a contract for a permanent superintendent in February 2025. "We are hoping tonight that this remarks will give you at least some basic information of where we're at and what we're doing," the chair said during the item.
Board members emphasized the desire to be deliberate and united in the choice. The board said it will seek an interim superintendent to serve from this semester through the next fiscal year to provide continuity and enable a strategic, rather than rushed, permanent hire. A board member said the group wants the community to be involved and encouraged turnout for outreach events.
The board moved into an executive session to receive legal advice and discuss employment matters under ARS 38-431.03; after reconvening in open session the board announced it would table immediate action on appointing an interim, keep the posting open, and plan additional candidate conversations at the next meeting.
The board did not announce a name for an interim in open session; members said timelines and contractual obligations shape the process and that staff and community input will be part of the next steps.
