New Castle Board approves plaza concert, Ice House anniversary party, payroll claims and sidewalk reimbursement

The New Castle Board of Works unanimously approved a Plaza Stage concert request for Aug. 8, the Ice House 75th-anniversary party for Aug. 15, suspended reading of minutes, approved payroll and claims for June 15–July 6, and authorized a $1,000 sidewalk reimbursement for a resident.
At its July 6 meeting the New Castle Board of Works approved several routine items and event requests unanimously.
Gary Wall, representing the band Mercy Triumphs, asked to use the Plaza Stage on Aug. 8 with a performance starting about 6:30 p.m. and setup earlier in the afternoon. The chair moved to approve the request, a second was recorded and the board voted in favor.
Sabrina Gosser asked about logistics for the Ice House’s 75th-anniversary event on Aug. 15, including street barricades and fireworks. Board staff said blocking streets for a one-day event does not require a city permit, but fireworks depend on whether they are legal or require a licensed operator and the event organizer should secure appropriate insurance and coordinate barricade placement and cleanup. The board approved the Ice House party request by voice vote.
The board also voted to suspend reading the minutes from the prior meeting, approved payroll, water/wastewater and general claims for the June 15–July 6 period, and approved a $1,000 sidewalk reimbursement for Mike Gregener of 433 South 11th Street after the chair said the applicant met all criteria. All votes reported at the meeting were voice votes and recorded as unanimous.
The meeting then returned to updates from Main Street about ongoing downtown building work; the board adjourned after a brief public-safety update from the chief about a recent building collapse response.
