Superintendent outlines strategic‑plan progress; special‑education expansion, world‑language rollout and summer tech review planned

Superintendent Dr. Ackerman told the board the district is entering the third year of a five‑year strategic plan and highlighted a set of programmatic shifts and pilot projects intended to strengthen instruction, inclusion and family engagement.

Key program announcements included a district decision to open an 8:1:1 special‑education classroom at Grafland for kindergarten and first‑grade students and to extend a 5–6 continuum at Bell Middle School. Administrators also said they would expand the TSP intervention to 7 Bridges based on program data indicating the model’s role as a preventative and supportive intervention for students who need targeted academic and social‑emotional support. "Based upon these data, we've made the decision to expand to 7 Bridges for their own TSP program," Yasmin said.

Curriculum alignment steps include requests for sole‑source designations for Fundations (a literacy component) and the VISTA world‑language curriculum to support Spanish and French instruction in middle schools and align with elementary offerings. Administrators said these moves are intended to provide better vertical alignment across grade levels.

On early childhood, administrators presented an RFP award recommendation for an off‑site pre‑K partnership with PlayCare that would add community seats. They said the vendor offered 11 seats and outlined an enrollment timeline; district staff will host a late‑June informational webinar for families, record it for parents who cannot attend, and accept an interest form with a deadline in late June. If applications exceed available seats, the district will run a lottery.

Safety and operations items included a Greeley task force proposal to add security guard hours for large events and athletics, improve wayfinding signage, add locking mechanisms where appropriate and strengthen after‑school safety plans and drills. Josh described the recommendations as targeted steps to improve response and wayfinding in an emergency.

Administrators also described several system and process initiatives: a summer review of technology and screen‑time practices using K–12 survey data and staff input with the goal of presenting recommendations before school opens; an exploratory pilot with Salesforce Learner360 to integrate HR, business and community data for communications and service delivery; and a decision by the APPR committee to move forward using a revised Danielson rubric for teacher evaluation with a multi‑year implementation window.

Board members pressed for concrete timelines and interim reporting. Administrators said they will present an update at the August meeting or earlier, reconvene committees over the summer (including a July 29 tech meeting), and aim to provide a December report from the AP committee. Dr. Ackerman emphasized a collaborative approach and said many items will include additional faculty and principal input prior to final decisions.

Next steps: administrators will pursue contract and procurement next steps for the PlayCare RFP if the board ratifies consent items, finalize staff‑level pilots for Salesforce over the summer, and return with more detailed proposals and data in August and at various points in the school year.
