Princeton council approves capital bond package, McCarter partnership and small-cell license; multiple resolutions pass unanimously

At its June 22 meeting the council approved a $10.25 million capital bond ordinance, a $707,000 open-space bond, multiple change orders and professional-service agreements, a small-cell antenna site license with Crown Castle, and a site license with McCarter Theatre Center for programming on the Westminster campus. Princeton’s mayor and council used their June 22 meeting to clear a slate of capital and administrative items, including bond ordinances, change orders, professional services agreements and site licenses.
The council approved a bond ordinance (ORD 26-23) appropriating $10,246,565 for various municipal capital improvements across departments — police, IT, recreation, health, engineering, fire — and authorizing the issuance of $9,734,235 in bonds or notes. Council members described the maturities as conservative (5–20 years) and said the projects are within the town’s debt capacity and not expected to increase the municipal tax levy.
Other items approved included a $707,000 bond ordinance for open‑space projects (ORD 26-26), final change orders and final payments for roadway and sewer rehabilitation projects (including a final change order that reduced a contract by $370,735.79 for the Alexander Street/Dickinson Street/University Place work), and a professional services award not to exceed $57,117.09 to 1 Water Consulting LLC for the Stony Brook Watershed Management Plan.
Council also authorized site-license agreements: one with Crown Castle Fiber LLC for a small-cell antenna at 153 Birch Avenue, and an agreement with McCarter Theatre Center to support programming and activities on the Westminster campus (the council noted McCarter will offer summer programming in the Cullen Center). Experience Princeton was authorized to hold a World Cup watch party and Bastille Day celebration on Hofer Street on July 14 under a separate resolution.
All consent-agenda items and the package of 13 resolutions noted on the meeting agenda were approved by voice or roll call vote. Councilmembers said they expect continued coordination with municipal departments and external partners, including Mercer County for a traffic-signalization MOU and local contractors for capital projects.
The council ended the meeting after public comment and a motion to adjourn.
