Council presses for clearer budget reporting; auditor engagement set for August

Councilmember Matt Stiglitz told the Town of Glen Echo council at the July 10 meeting that he had concerns with recent accounting performance, including how budget items were allocated and confusion between budget and actual figures.
Finance presenter Eva Webb explained that over-expenditures (noted for elevator maintenance, a traffic study and street signs) had been balanced by higher-than-expected interest earnings. To improve transparency, Webb said she will provide budget-vs.-actual figures with a narrative each month and plans to attend a council meeting every quarter to present and answer questions.
Mayor Dia Costello also reported that Auditor SEK is scheduled to begin work in August. The council did not record any further formal action at this meeting beyond approving the FY24 budget amendment and directing improved reporting procedures.
