Martinez Unified board unanimously adopts 2026–27 budget, LCAP and several program and staffing items
Summary
At its June 22 meeting the Martinez Unified Board unanimously approved the 2026–27 budget, the 2026–27 Local Control and Accountability Plan, a K–8 algebra/math pilot, the consolidated application for Title I–V funding, CSBA policy updates, an adult education job description and a physical therapist salary schedule.
The Martinez Unified Board of Education approved a package of budgetary, policy and personnel items at its June 22 meeting, voting unanimously on each action item.
Budget and LCAP Director Cannon presented an updated budget for 2026–27, reporting unanticipated state revenue that produced a positive budget outlook; following a motion the board voted to approve the 2026–27 budget. Director Espinosa then asked for approval of the 2026–27 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) and the board voted to approve the LCAP and the related local indicator report.
Curriculum and federal funding The board approved a new K–8 algebra mathematics pilot to be implemented in 2026–27. Trustees also approved the district’s annual consolidated application to request federal Title I–V funds; Director Cannon noted the application signals the district’s intent to apply and that final dollar amounts will be determined by student enrollment and confirmed in October interim reports.
Policy and personnel Interim superintendent summarized CSBA policy updates tied to new legislation affecting hiring procedures, child abuse prevention and the information required on student ID cards; the board adopted the CSBA updates. The board approved a revised job description for a high school diploma/high school equivalency coordinator in adult education and later approved a classified salary schedule to add a new physical therapist position, placing the role on the same 10‑month pay range as occupational therapists.
Votes and motions Motions on the items were moved by trustees in open session and seconded; the clerk recorded unanimous “aye” votes on each action. No public comments were made on the action items during the meeting.
