Martinez Unified to use grant funds for training days; local company to sponsor volunteer clearance events

At the June 22 meeting, interim district leadership outlined professional development plans and new volunteer clearance requirements for the 2026–27 school year.
The interim superintendent told trustees that, after an earlier board reduction of $50,000 in travel/conference and $15,000 in professional development contracts, the district plans to allocate $25,000 from a student services/professional development block grant to support implementation of new curriculum and to fund certificated staff professional development days in August and October 2026.
The superintendent also reminded the public of updated volunteer requirements — fingerprint/live‑scan checks, TB clearance and completion of mandated reporter training — and said Marathon Martinez Renewables has offered to sponsor two Saturday volunteer clearance events in August covering live‑scan and TB clearance fees. The district will announce dates and registration details in coming weeks.
Trustees thanked Marathon Martinez Renewables for covering costs that can accumulate for volunteers. The board did not take separate action on the sponsorship at the meeting.
