Cook County school board adopts fiscal 2027 budget with modest fund spend-down

The Cook County Public Schools board voted June 18 to adopt the district's fiscal 2027 budget, approving fund allocations for transportation, curriculum adoptions, technology and other items and endorsing a roughly $750,000 planned spend-down in Fund 1.
Board members reviewed details of the budget narrative and enrollment projections. The superintendent and board members discussed anticipated kindergarten and pre-K enrollment and how those figures track to the packet's charts. "At this point, we have 16 kindergarten and 29 pre-K so far," the Chair noted while reviewing enrollment trends with the superintendent.
Committee members emphasized there were no substantive changes since the prior work session and thanked budget staff. The board was urged to consult the budget narrative posted to the district website for details; the Chair said the narrative would be posted following the meeting. A motion to accept the FY27 budget was made and carried by voice vote.
The budget adoption will allow staff to proceed with procurement and staffing decisions aligned to the plan; the board thanked Theresa (budget lead) for preparing the materials.
