Atlanta council extends Tipton leagues' use of town diamonds for 2026 pending contract review

A resident involved with the leagues told the council that DNR delays and other permitting issues have pushed field construction into winter, leaving no playable local facility for the coming season. “We are at the mercy of that,” the resident said, framing the request as a short-term accommodation while longer-term options are pursued.

Council members discussed options including delaying a closing on any sale until a buyer can assume the current use contract, or asking a prospective purchaser to honor the existing youth-league contract. Speakers emphasized competing priorities: council members noted past investment in the fields (one participant said the town previously spent $9,800 on three fields) and the need to balance park improvements and sale proceeds that would be set aside for park work.
