County highway supervisor and planning commission disagree on Perry Road right‑of‑way abandonment

The county highway supervisor (Mr. Bryant) urged adoption of exhibit A, the highway office’s recommendation, which would retain only a 50‑foot stub and abandon roughly 400 feet of right of way. Bryant said exhibit A is consistent with prior abandonments and would reduce ongoing maintenance costs to taxpayers.
Commissioners asked for figures on potential cost savings if the county did not maintain the longer stretch, and whether approving exhibit B would create a new precedent. Staff and the highway supervisor acknowledged that approving exhibit B would set a different standard for future abandonments and that prior examples were included in exhibit C. If the commission wants the highway supervisor’s option (exhibit A) to be considered at next week’s meeting, a member will need to move to amend the agenda item to substitute exhibit A for exhibit B prior to voting.
No vote was taken; the resolution will be reintroduced next week for a formal decision.
