She said districts have 120 days from issuance to adopt a policy and that Florence 01 must submit its policy to the State Department by Aug. 26. Miss Mahoney also said the administrative rule mirrors the state board guidance with district‑specific adjustments.
Superintendent Dr. O'Malley confirmed the policy will be implemented for the 2027–28 school year and that applications under the new rule would begin then. Chair Mr. Stewart emphasized the short timeline and thanked legal staff for preparing the draft. No vote was taken at the meeting; the item was recorded as a first reading and is scheduled for second reading at the August meeting prior to the statutory deadline.
