Selectmen award cemetery tree-removal contract to Gil’s Professional Tree Care for $7,300

The Weare Board of Selectmen voted June 29 to award a cemetery tree-removal contract to Gil’s Professional Tree Care Incorporated for $7,300, Chair Jack Dearborn said.
The award covered work at the Hadley and Benjamin Perkins cemeteries. Dearborn moved to award the bid and said the selected firm is Gil’s Professional Tree Care Incorporated; the motion was seconded and approved by the board.
The vote followed a review of two submissions. One board member said a second bidder was “noncompliant,” and another observed that one submission “didn’t really follow the RFP.” Committee member (S2) told the board, “Hebert didn't really follow the RFP. They scribe the work they're gonna do,” and members agreed that only Gil’s met the RFP requirements and the certificate-of-insurance condition would be enforced before work begins.
Board members also discussed whether the town’s purchasing-policy threshold — a $5,000 cut point for formal bidding — should be updated. Dearborn said producing an RFP for small-dollar work can be onerous; one member suggested the board could amend the threshold in the purchasing policy at a later date.
After the award, the board moved and approved a separate motion to have the chair sign the contract on behalf of the town.
The board recorded no further conditions on the award. The board then proceeded to other agenda items.
